Nestled amongst the towering buildings of downtown Seattle, FareStart’s flagship restaurant space is helping people escape the cycle of poverty.
FareStart is a James Beard Award-winning nonprofit organization. For nearly 30 years, FareStart has been helping people overcome the compounding barriers of poverty by giving them real work experience and skills in the foodservice industry. Through FareStart’s restaurants, cafes, catering, and programs that provide meals for social services, shelters, and schools in the Seattle area, participants get practical work experience while giving back to the community.
FareStart needed a restaurant space that welcomed customers in from the street and gave program participants a view of the city and ultimately a connection to the world of opportunities that await them outside.
To help fulfill this mission, lumenomics was proud to donate 50% of the project cost to provide window shades for the restaurant space. Project Manager Stephen Ullrich supervised the process: "We were thrilled to partner with such a great organization. Giving back is a key value here at lumenomics, and it was so rewarding to work with such a great cause. We wanted to supply FareStart with the best shade product for their dining space- allowing them total control of their natural light to create the best dining experience for their customers. We’re really happy with the finished product.”
With the completion of the restaurant, FareStart is continuing to change lives, one meal at a time: “The FareStart Restaurant is more than just a place to eat lunch or host a catered event. It’s the heart of our Adult Culinary Program, which has helped so many people on their journey toward a better future. We are grateful for lumenomics for their generous support of our mission.”
